When you pick up a new prescription from the pharmacy how much time do you really spend talking to the pharmacist?  Are you asked by the clerk if you would like to have a consult, or are you directed over to the counseling counter and told that the pharmacist would like to discuss your medication with you?

Medication counseling is your right as a patient, unfortunately, all to often, patients are given the opportunity to "opt-out" of their counseling session.  This is a practice, that I feel, should be discouraged at all cost.

Without medication counseling, patients are sent out of the pharmacy with some medication leaflets and the directions on the label, left to figure it out on their own.  Please take a moment and read this article that describes, in detail, what needs to be covered in a medication counseling session.  Click on DRUG below.
